The Borderlands 2 community is in turmoil after Gearbox Software, the developers of the game, removed content from fan-made nude mods that featured Moxxi. Not only were nude pictures of Moxxi taken down but her character model was also changed to normal clothing. On social media discussions are taking place about whether this removal was good for the game or not. While it is unclear what Gearbox's reasoning behind this decision was, many are wondering how many more times will they have to fight against sexualizing women in games before it finally stops? It seems like there is no real way for games to coexists with sexualized female characters without backlash. The issue becomes even worse when the removal is made in response to requests from non-gamers. Game Rant has reached out to Gearbox Software for comment on the matter. We will update this article when/if they respond. UPDATE: Game Rant confirmed that Gearbox said, "Borderlands 2 does not have any nude mods." The company added, "Gearbox is aware of all nude mods in games being taken down by Valve Corporation, including Borderlands 2. The original nude mod appearance in Borderlands 2 was an unauthorized mod that Gearbox does not support. We are looking into the situation to learn more about it." Borderlands 2 came out of the gate strong with an overwhelming amount of content for players to enjoy. Moxxi is no exception. She didn't have a lot of content to begin with which is why many fans have been clamoring for more of her character since she was first revealed back at E3 2011. Now that the game has been out for six months, fans are starting to wonder whether or not they will ever see more Moxxi content anytime soon. There are few things that are guaranteed in life, but death and taxes are definitely one of them. That and Moxxi in a bikini and if anything, Gearbox has definitely delivered on that end. The only problem is that we seem to be at the end of the line with her since we haven't seen or heard anything about more content for her in the past six months. We don't think it's too much to ask for more Moxxi content. She is an incredibly popular character and fans want to play more of her. There is still a lot about her character that we do not know such as her friends or family which means there is plenty of room for more stories and missions just with her alone. Still, to have a character that is so popular be stripped of its content without any real explanation from either Gearbox or Valve is baffling. It's almost as if they want to say, "You're just going to have to deal with sexualizing women whether you want it or not." We can't help but wonder how many games will have this same issue where developers remove content from fan-made nude mods because it "harms the experience" for non-gamers. This leads us to believe that there will be a lot more of this to come in the future and we wonder when this point in time will finally come.
